- FRJImenez, GMA News

Amaya is extended until November

MARIO BAUTISTA

ALL WORK and no play makes Marian Rivera a dull girl so the "Amaya" star asked for a weekend reprieve from her "Amaya" and "Panday 2" director, Mac Alejandre. She was given the go signal and spent the last weekend in Hong Kong with her grandma, with BF Dingdong Dantes accompanying them.

"It’s a much needed rest," she says. "Matagal na kong walang day off kasi sige-sige taping ng ‘Amaya’ then right after shooting ‘Temptation Island’, diretso ko sa ‘Panday 2’. Wala talagang pahinga. Last weekend naman, trabaho pa rin as we did an ‘Amaya’ promo tour sa Batangas and Laguna after our successful roadshow tours sa Cebu and Northern Luzon."

The series is originally meant to end in October but being the number one Kapuso show, it now airs up to November. "Marami pang mangyayari sa’kin at sa kakambal kong ahas," Marian adds. About her tiff with Heart Evangelista who’s now back from Brazil, we heard GMA execs are doing their best to bring them together to a meeting so they can iron out amicably whatever differences they have between them since they’re both Kapuso stars.

Marian mas pinaboran ng Kapuso?

SHOW-MY Ni Salve Asis

What more kung itodo niya ang pagpapaseksi?

Dear Tito Alfie,

Thanks a lot.

God Bless You for the good words you said abot Marian.

You are a professional writer and has a good sense of judgment, so level minded and intelligent, among all others, you are the best.

Brilliant writers like you should be hailed because inspite of other writer’s negative write ups, we still have one Alfie Lorenzo.

Mabuhay ka! And we will pray for you always…

God Bless…

***

Dear Tito Alfie,

DongYan Onliners’ Tribe International (DYOL), an organization composed of *loyal, local and international supporters of DongYan, have collectively decided to send this letter to you to express our valid, united sentiments and comments regarding the continuing Marian-Heart issue.

As DongYan supporters, initially, we have set aside our emotions and remained very objective over this fiasco. However, recent developments necessitate to voice out our comments as we are convinced that Heart’s camp created this unfortunate incident which happened during the TI shoot and repeated at the domestic airport. Insult No. 1 –“ Marian bobita, hindi marunong mag-English.”

It was reported that two of Heart’s fans who were around during the shooting were overheard describing Marian as “bobita, hindi marunong mag-English, and has sagging skin”. Somehow, these remarks reached Marian. But instead of accosting these fans, Marian chose to be civil and cordially discussed her displeasure with Heart, who she considers a friend – an action that would have put the incident to rest and closure, or so as Marian thought. Later, Marian also kept quiet despite of the many blind items and unpleasant innuendos referring to what transpired between her and Heart as if these writers were around when it happened. The unfair rumor mill was vastly active!

Our comments on Insult No. 1:

When did one’s ability to speak in English did it become a measure of a person’s intellect or what’s between one’s ears?

Marian was not the sole person insulted by the “bobita” remarks. Didn’t Heart’s mother and fans realize that with the name calling on Marian’s use of Tagalog, many other famous but equally successful movie personalities (need we name names here?) were insulted, too? Why was Marian singled out?

Naturally, because Marian is currently the most successful and envied movie star.

Marian speaks Tagalog more often but this does not mean she cannot completely speak, nor cannot understand English. After all, she is a proven college graduate! But if she chooses to use and more comfortable in Tagalog, why can’t some people accept that? Is it a disadvantage just because many movie personalities conduct interviews and guestings in English? Aren’t we Filipinos? Is it because she is a popular movie star? Does Marian’s use of our national language make her a lesser person? On the contrary, shouldn’t we even admire Marian’s use of Tagalog in interviews?

Or is it the perennial colonial mentality of many who seem to be ashamed and consider it a disgrace if a person uses our Filipino language? If this is so, why then do we require movie stars who join our local movie industry to learn and speak Tagalog to be better relate with the public and succeed?

Isn’t it more patriotic and pleasing if a person speaks in Tagalog yet communicates the thoughts exceedingly well, rather than someone who speaks English but with lots of grammatical errors we term as “Carabao English” and leave readers or listeners wondering: What the heck did she/he mean by that? As such, a listener would oftentimes request: “Paki-ulit nga please! (Subtle Interpretation: Puwede ba, ‘di namin ma-gets and gusto mong sabihin, Taga*lugin mo na lang!) And we are not referring to comedians here!

Insult No. 2 -Marian with sagging skin

Our comments on Insult No. 2:

Only the blind and green-eyed monsters will describe Marian this way. On the contrary, countless billboards that show her very fair and beautiful skin will prove otherwise. Has anyone taken count of the many beauty product endorsements she has made and conti*nues to make? Are these companies so naive or liars to continue signing up Marian as their endorsers if her natural skin and beauty are not pleasing to anyone’s eyes on and off screen? (itutuloy)

Marian at Dingdong namasyal sa Hongkong!

By: Alfie Lorenzo

ABOUT SHOWBIZ Ni Nitz Miralles

Sen. Bong Revilla on Marian: "Kahit sinong aktor, bibilib sa kanya. Maganda na, magaling pang umarte"

Arthur Quinto

First time pa lang maging leading lady ni Sen.

Secret of Amaya's identity close to revelation

PRESS STATEMENT FROM GMA-7:

"Primetime Queen Marian Rivera's secret identity as Amaya has earned her a number of foes and friends throughout her life, forcing her to hide the truth about herself to almost everyone close to her including her greatest love, Bagani played by Sid Lucero.

"Continuing her disguise as a babaylan (priestess), Amaya keeps on convincing Alunsina not to reveal her secret to Rajah Mangubat only to discover that the girl already made it known to someone else in the village.

"Meanwhile, Binayaan (Glaiza de Castro) gladly obliges a request from Dal'lang to sing. But that moment was strange enough for Dal'lang to speculate that something was amiss on her daughter's voice. Will Dal'lang finally find out Binayaan's ploy disguising herself as Amaya?

"As the rift between Amaya and Bagani grows deeper, Lumad (Mikael Daez) comes into Amaya's defense and gives her special attention. Bagani feels a bit jealous of Lumad's extra closeness to Amaya and swears to get revenge against his rival. Will Amaya soften her heart to Bagani and give him another chance?

"Meanwhile, as the epic series continues its supremacy on primetime TV ratings, the entire cast of Amaya headlined by Marian Rivera is again set to make an epic invasion, this time among their fans in Batangas and Laguna for their South Luzon Roadshow on July 22 and July 23. This third leg of the highly-successful roadshow of Amaya gives the local residents a rare chance to meet and greet their favorite stars and watch them perform production numbers and participate on the on-ground games and activities.

"Amaya, which is created by the GMA Entertainment TV Group, is another first in the television industry for its original concept and innovative storyline. It airs weeknights right after Captain Barbell on GMA Telebabad."

Marian Rivera inapi sa tarp ng FHM about showbiz

(Pilipino Star Ngayon)

Mahirap din kasi dahil for seven years, nasa GMA ako, nahirapan din akong magdesisyon.

Mabait si Marian, she deserves where she is now, she’s very hardworking.

“I will not expect anything. I will just do my best para matumbasan ko naman ang pagtitiwala nila sa akin,” sagot niya.

Nanay ni Heart magde-demanda

SHOW-MY Ni Salve Asis

From Nadine Samonte article: MISSING MARIAN

by: Rommel R. Llanes
Nadine Samonte still has no plans to marry boyfriend Emerson Chua, chooses to concentrate on her career in TV5MISSING MARIAN.

"She deserves it naman, e.

"So, parang, kung anong tiyaga mo...

MariMar, dun kami naging close.

"Wala a
kong nakikita sa kanyang... Kaya nga ang sabi ko, she's my friend.

Dingdong Dantes on Marian Rivera's rift with Heart Evangelista: "Dun ako sa totoo, dun ako sa tama. Hindi ako sang-ayon sa abusado."

Dingdong Dantes on Marian Rivera's rift with Heart Evangelista: "Dun ako sa totoo, dun ako sa tama. Sa lahat ng pagkakataon, we alawys help each other. Alam kong malalagpasan niya ito," says Dingdong Dantes about the latest controversy involving girlfriend Marian Rivera.

"Sa lahat ng pagkakataon, we alawys help each other.

PEP REVIEW: Temptation Island remains faithful to the campy spirit of the original film

by: Earl Villanueva

PEP REVIEW: Temptation Island remains faithful to the campy spirit of the original film Marian Rivera and Tom Rodriguez (top frame) sizzle in one of the scenes of Temptation Island. Lovi Poe (bottom frame) stands out in this contemporary remake written and directed by Chris Martinez.

Before there was Survivor and Sex and the City, there was Temptation Island.

Temptation Island was a movie released by Regal Films in 1980, starring real-life pageant title holders who tackled roles far from the conventional Pinay beauty queen image. The premise of the movie was simple—they join a beauty contest, their ship catches fire, they get washed off to a secluded island (walang tubig, walang pagkain) and they fight to survive (with each other and with their minds) until they are rescued.

Three decades later, Regal Films and GMA Films chose to remake the Joey Gosiengfiao movie starring four lead stars who weren't born yet when the original came out. The 2011 film stays faithful to the original's plot, just sprinkling some updates in the looks and in the dialogue (sure, they didn't need cell phone 'signal' in the '80s). This results in the film turning out to be an homage, but is that such a bad thing?

The 2011 version stars Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe, Solenn Heussaff, and Marian Rivera as the beauty queen wannabes fighting for the title of Ms. Manila Sunshine, a model search sponsored by a sun-tan spray. Coming from opposing backgrounds and possessing different personalities, they clash on the island, competing with each other with their dirty tactics and showcasing different levels of sexuality.

These actresses performed based on the roles they were given, and it's difficult not to compare them with their predecessors.

Lovi Poe held her own as the rich, overly confident and sharp-witted brat who often stole the show with her lines. Her dialogue may have been already been delivered excellently in the original but with her husky voice and aloof demeanor, Lovi made the role of Serafina entirely her own. This may have been billed as a Marian Rivera movie but Lovi, an underappreciated actress, did most of the good acting, standing out and invoking emotions—whether love or hate—from the audience.

Heart Evangelista is literally stunning and her looks fit her role as the demure and virginal colegiala aptly named Virginia. But sad to say, she didn't stand out much in the little role and screen time handed to her.

Solenn Heussaff, meanwhile, is obviously a neophyte and appears to struggle in an ensemble of more experienced actors, but she could have performed better in a role other than Pura, the social-climbing spoiled daughter of a debt-burdened family.

Marian Rivera nailed the role that fits her naturally—she is the con artist Cristina who knows how to use her beauty and sexuality to her advantage. In this movie, Marian banks on her strength in playing an exceptionally lovely, yet loud, silly and normal woman.

Another scene-stealer is Rufa Mae Quinto who plays Nympha, Lovi's maid. Most of the movie's laugh out loud moments are care of Rufa Mae and the movie proves she is still very much relevant and funny.

John "Sweet" Lapus remains to be reliable and went beyond being just a carbon copy of the original character Joshua.

The boys of Temptation Island, meanwhile, may have dragged the movie down in the acting department. Tom Rodriguez as Umberto lacks the star factor to match his pair Marian; Aljur Abrenica looks a bit miscast as the rich and smart college rascal Alfred and Mikael Daez, well, being an inexperienced newcomer has big shoes to fill as he portrays Ricardo.

The original Temptation Island garnered a cult following and became an accidental Filipino film classic even without being mind-bogglingly profound or without romanticizing poverty—two most common ingredients in hailed masterpieces of local cinema. Temptation Island was exploratory, fun, and—what's a Temptation Island discussion without this word—campy. It's a film borne out of fantasies and what ifs. The film has left such an indelible mark that the catty remarks and witty catchphrases from three decades ago seem to just have been invented last week.

Temptation Island 2011 certainly looks better, flows more smoothly and delivers the requisite glamour and wardrobe update. Some scenes were recreated frame-by-frame and lines delivered almost in sync with the original scenes (Be sure to catch the end credits!). In fact, this remake is almost too faithful. But that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially in this case where director Chris Martinez is dealing with an untouchable classic.

It is obvious though that the 2011 update is a sanitized version of the original, probably to appeal to a broader audience. This might be a little something fans of the original movie may miss. But they will enjoy the movie, because of its nostalgia and familiarity. Now, those who do not have any idea what Temptation Island is all about may feel a little bit alienated and may feel bitin.

In conclusion, Temptation Island 2011 is much like an inside joke—brilliant and hilarious to those in the inner circle, amusing yet mysterious to those who are not.

Temptation Island will open in cinemas starting this Wednesday, July 6. It is rated PG-13 by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board.

Direk Chris Martinez does not mind cuts made to Temptation Island

Jocelyn Dimaculangan

Direk Chris Martinez does not mind cuts made to Temptation IslandThe lead stars of Temptation Island present during the premiere night were (from upper left, clockwise) Marian Rivera, Solenn Heussaff, Lovi Poe, Rufa Mae Quinto, Tom Rodriguez, John " Sweet" Lapus, and Mikael Daez.
The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) initially gave an R-13 rating to Temptation Island.

The producers, Regal Films and GMA Films, submitted the film again for reconsideration after doing minor changes in the movie. As a result, the movie is now rated PG-13.

According to Direk Chris Martinez, he reduced one kissing scene each from the four lead stars namely Heart Evangelista, Lovi Poe, Solenn Heussaff, and Marian Rivera.

He also shortened the fight scene that was shown in the movie.

"Hindi naman mahirap ang hiningi ng MTRCB kaya hindi naging mabigat sa loob ko," said Direk Chris several minutes before the premiere night of Temptation Island, which was held last night, July 3, at SM Megamall Cinema 9. The movie is scheduled to open in cinemas by Wednesday, July 6.

The moviehouse was jampacked with fans and members of the press who watched this contemporary remake of the 1980 film originally directed by the late Joey Gosiengfiao.

Marian's boyfriend, Dingdong Dantes, was not spotted during the premiere night but she was glad that her mother and her grandmother took the time to show their support.

When Marian saw her Darna co-star Celia Rodriguez, she screamed for joy as she hugged the veteran actress tightly.

Heart Evangelista and Aljur Abrenica were unable to attend the event but cast members Rufa Mae Quinto, Lovi Poe, Solenn Heussaff, Tom Rodriguez, Mikael Daez, and John "Sweet" Lapus were all there for the red-carpet event.

Jake Cuenca was present that night to witness the trailer of My Neighbor's Wife, which he will topbill along with Dennis Trillo, Carla Abellana, and Lovi Poe. Regal's upcoming movie will reportedly be screened by September this year.

Other celebrities spotted that night were Fabio Ide, Hideo Muroaka, Geoff Taylor, Stef Prescott, and Roxanne Barcelo.

Erwan Heussaff, the brother of Solenn and boyfriend of Anne Curtis, also came to show his support. He was with their French father.

Senators Richard Gordon, Antonio Trillanes, Col. Ariel Querubin, and TV host Korina Sanchez were also there as well as directors Joel Lamangan and Ricky Davao.

When asked how she felt about the success of the premiere night, Marian Rivera told PEP.ph, "Nakaka-proud, ang galing nilang lahat!

This movie marks the film debut of model-turned-actor Mikael Daez.

He said, "Medyo nahiya ako to see myself onscreen pero nag-enjoy ako sa movie. I think Direk [Chris] really did a good job.

"Happy lang ako na I got to work on my first movie, so kinakabahan."

May boo kaming naririnig at with matching pito pa!

Ha! Ha! Ha!”

Sa ending, peace to all pa rin ang mensahe niya at let’s all be friends!
